Annang my root.!

Annang my pride!!

Annang my mother land!!!

A place so rich and gifted.

A  place of diversity of many cultures like Ekpo masqurade, Utu-ekpe, etc. We have fattening room as the part of our culture where virgins, adolescent girls are fattened up in preparation for marriage. We also have Abiakpo as our culture which the British lumped these group together and gave the name “Otoro.”

ABOUT MY DRESSING AND WHAT THEY SIGNIFIES

On my head i have what we all known as beat, but in my local dialect it is called Nkwa ibiot. It is used in beautifying Annang dancing attire. On my neck i have what we also know as beat, but in my local dialet it is called Nkwa itong. Its a symbol of Royalty, honour and Wealth. It is also use in beautifying Annang dancing attire.
On my wrists are what we called Nyoho ubok, it is used in beautifying Annang dancing attire, the same applicable to my legs.

On my waist i have what we called Nyoho isin, it is used in making the waist moves flexible, while dancing, likewise adding beauty to the Annang dancing attire.
WHEN TO DRESS IN THIS ATTIRE

I dress in this attire to dance on a special event, such as in Annual Festival, traditional marriage and our cultural day which is called Annang day.

LOCATIONS OF PEOPLE WITH THIS CULTURE

They are located in;

Ikot Ekpene, Ika Annang, Abak, Essien Udim and Etim Ekpo.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT MY CULTURE

Apart from dressing, i must confess! I love everything about my culture, especially  during our Annual Festival, which usually occur in December period, you will see all kinds of play in different dimensions, like Ekpo Masqurade, Abiakpo, Utu-ekpe and lots more displaying uniformly with different fascinating attires, growing with many colors like rainbow. What a culture!
LITTLE ABOUT THIS CULTURE

Annang is a cultural and the group that lives in south eastern Nigeria. However, Annang have about eight local government areas of the present thirty-one(31) local government area in Akwa Ibom State, namely; Abak, Essien Udim, Etim Ekpo, Ika

Annang, Ikot Ekpene, Obot Akara, Oruk Anam and Ukanafun all in Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria. They were first located in the former Abak and Ikot Ekpene. Love, Peace, Justice and Unity is their Slogans till this day.
