Arsenal FC turned on the style, on Sunday to thrash Burnley 5-0 in Arsene Wenger’s final home game as manager.
Another after the break was started and finished explosively by Alex Iwobi, one of 83 academy graduates to come through the ranks under Wenger, after Sead Kolasinac had scored with a powerful low drive. Aubameyang got his second from close range to complete the rout.
Wenger was given a guard of honour by both teams before kick-off and urged supporters, some of whom have long called for his exit, to “no matter what, keep the faith” in quotes tweeted by the club.
Fans of both sides frequently chanted “There’s only one Arsene Wenger”, and Arsenal’s supporters also sang the name of former midfielder Patrick Vieira, who has been among the names tipped to take over at the Emirates next season.
